Moses’ calling into ministry in Exodus has to be one of my favorite stories. It’s so relatable. God has a huge, miraculous plan and Moses has a huge, detailed list of excuses. Sound familiar? God calls and commissions Moses in Exodus 3 and 4, and finally talks Moses into (reluctantly) going to Egypt to deliver Israel…with Aaron as his mouthpiece.

Round 1 of Moses vs. Pharaoh doesn’t go so well. Pharaoh punishes the Israelites with harder labor and sends Moses packing (see Exodus 5).

In Exodus 6, as Moses questions his calling and ministry (I said this was relatable, didn’t I?), God restates His plan. As Moses questions God again, Exodus 6 sums up the scene with this:

“But the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron and gave them a charge about the people of Israel and about Pharaoh king of Egypt: to bring the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt.”

Exodus 6:13 (ESV)

Pharaoh’s hard heart didn’t phase God. Nothing changed about God’s plans. He sent Moses right back in to face Pharaoh again, standing only on His plan and His promise.

Are you willing to walk into a challenging situation standing only on a plan and a promise?

Are you willing to trust God when it seems like His plans aren’t going so well?

Are you willing to obey when there’s already been failure and harsh opposition?

Remember that all the promises of God find their Yes in Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:20). Be confident and don’t back down. God’s plan will succeed even when the opposition seems to overpower! He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world!
