I grew up playing baseball and my dad was often the coach of my teams. Baseball was a family affair for us. I remember game day was always full of nerves because there was so much excitement and anticipation going into a game. The excitement came from the unknown. Although we may have felt confident going up against another team, no one ever knew for sure which team would win.
This is where following God is different. For example, listen to what Joshua told the Israelites as they lapped Jericho for the final time. Remember that as he shouted to the troops, the walls of Jericho were still standing strong. There were no cracks. No bricks coming loose. No signs of crumbling walls. Just a lot of faith.
“And at the seventh time, when the priests had blown the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, ‘Shout, for the Lord has given you the city.’”
— Joshua 6:16 (ESV) —
They couldn’t see the victory, but they knew it was theirs.
Following God is different than any other regular competition or battle because He’s already guaranteed the victory!
We don’t fight for the victory, we fight from the victory!
As followers of God, we’re not hoping He pulls through; we rest in the fact that He already came through, defeated the enemy, and will lead us into victory! March confidently against the enemy today and fight from the victory that is already yours!
