I grew up loving art. I was scribbling letters and pictures as early as I can remember, writing and illustrating books, and diving into photography. I taught myself Photoshop after high school, and eventually ran my own graphic design company for a while. Art is in my veins.
It turns out, art is in your veins as well:
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
“We are God’s masterpiece.” Let that truth simmer in your soul for a minute. The word for “masterpiece” is the Greek word “poeima,” which is where we get our English word “poem.” God is writing a story with your story.
Here’s the thing with a work of art, though – it goes through a lot of phases until it’s finished. Before you see a work of art hanging in the Louvre, or hear a song on iTunes, or purchase that photo for your living room, it’s been through a process. There’s been tweaking and changing and editing and shifting – for week, months, or even years. Similarly, as God’s masterpieces, we are always in motion as well.
God is not just doing some work in you though; His goal is to work through you.
IN and THROUGH. Both are important. God can’t work through you until He’s at work in you, but don’t stop at letting God work in you because the goal is for Him to work through you.
Have you let Him work IN you? If not, start today with surrender. Let go and let God get to work in the editing process of you, His masterpiece.
Have you let God work THROUGH you? If not, stop the excuses and let Him to get to work. He can do more than you’d imagine when you simply let go and follow His lead!
