Easter weekend has now come and gone, but as Christians, we never stop celebrating the resurrection. It’s really an amazing scene when you think about it…
The stone gone.
Angels in place.
Roman guards unconscious.
When the disciples approached the tomb on that life-altering Sunday morning, the angels had quite the response.
They asked them “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” There’s a lot for us to ponder right there. Why do we seek life from things that can’t give life (human relationships, success, fame, popularity)?
As the angels explained the scene to the stunned onlookers, they reminded them of what Jesus had said:
He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” And they remembered his words,
— Luke 24:6–8 (ESV) —
Remembering His words gave them hope. That was Jesus’ strategy when it came to the cross. He regularly talked about His impending death, but He always coupled that tragic news with the victorious news of the resurrection.
God’s promises empower us for life’s pain.
Pain is inevitable, so we must fight to hold onto the promises God has given us. Just like the disciples, we need to remember his words. His words are our power in the midst of pain. Don’t let go.
