You may be familiar with a crazy scene in Mark 5 where Jesus heals a demon-possessed man. The text says the man was out of his mind, naked, and living among the tombs. This was a guy nobody wanted to touch…but that never stopped Jesus. When the man approached Jesus, He confidently cast the demons out of the man, sending the demons into a herd of pigs which plunged off a cliff, drowning in the Sea of Galilee (this is a bacon tragedy!).
Suddenly the man is clothed, in his right mind, and following Jesus!
As Jesus begins to leave, the man wants to go with Him. Jesus’ reply is what amazes me…
“As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with him. And he did not permit him but said to him, ‘Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.’ And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled.”
— Mark 5:18-20 ESV —
Jesus turned a formerly naked, tomb-dwelling demoniac into a hometown evangelist!
Although the details of your story are very different from this man’s, the outcome and your mission are the same. If God has changed you, He wants you to “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”
You have a story to share and unique people to share it with. You have access to some people that a pastor or missionary or evangelist may never have access to. Before your friend or family member ever comes to Christ or even comes to church, you have the opportunity to tell them “how much Jesus has done for you.”You and I are unlikely evangelists, but so was he. Be faithful with your story and the people God has sent you to!
