But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
Hebrews 3:13 (NASB)
I love that verse. It’s so tricky. “Encourage one another for the rest of your life” sounds pretty intimidating, but “encourage one another as long as it is still called ‘Today’”? That’s doable. It’s applicable today as well as tomorrow, because by the time you get to tomorrow, well, it’s today, so it still applies.
Periodically, I do an encouragement exercise with the Awaken Church staff. Instead of our normal Tuesday Team Meetup, we’ll spend the 15-20 minutes we would have been with each other reaching out to people to encourage. We all need encouragement, but it’s easy to overlook its importance.
I’m keeping this post short for a purpose. I didn’t want you to spend long reading this email; instead, spend an extra minute or two (or twenty) encouraging someone.
Who can you encourage right now? Send an email, a text, make a phone call, or if you really want to get personal, write a letter (remember that?)! Somebody in your life (parent, spouse, kids, sibling, co-worker, neighbor) needs encouragement right now. Pray for them and let them know you’re standing with them.
