Have you ever driven to work, then realized you don’t even remember driving there? Scary isn’t it? So much of our lives revolve around habits – some good, others not so good. That’s especially the case when it comes to our finances.

Most people like the idea of generosity, but a generous lifestyle never accidentally happens to anyone. A lifestyle of generosity is always marked by three things…

In 2 Corinthians 8, Paul wrote about how the Macedonians (who he praised for their generosity) “gave themselves first to the Lord.” True generosity comes from total surrender. Recognizing whose our money is changes how we use it. Since it all belongs to God, generosity should be our joy.

The Macedonians “gave themselves first to the Lord, then by the will of God to us.” In its most basic sense, generosity is about using our God-given resources to meet the needs of others. We give because God gave and we love others because God loves us. Living generously is not just a good idea; according to this verse, Paul says it’s God’s will!

When Paul first introduced the idea of giving to the Corinthian church, he essentially told them that giving should be planned, protected, and proportionate (see 1 Corinthians 16:3).

Generosity requires intentionality – it will not just happen. Generosity happens when we develop and live by a plan to invest wisely, live graciously, and sacrifice greatly.

Sunday was an amazing day at Awaken Church as we came together to sacrifice big through generous, financial giving. By giving sacrificially, we chose to no longer allow our fear, worry, or greed to make the decisions about where God’s money will go.

If you have been impacted by the ministry of Awaken Church, we’d love for you to financially partner with us as we seek to awaken people far from Christ to new life in Christ!
