Life is tough. The stakes are high. The battle is fierce. The struggle is real. Our only hope in emerging victorious is found through Jesus, His people, and our firm, growing faith in Him. The early church felt the same struggle we feel today. Here are some thoughts to give you encouragement and strength for the fight…

Stay surrounded with people who keep you grounded.

Paul obsessed over the growth of the Thessalonian church as well as the other churches he planted. We all need people in our lives who obsess over our growth and realign our perspective. When the struggle rages extra hard for us like it did for the Thessalonian church, we’ll be tempted to allow our emotions to lead our response. Emotions make nice companions, but they’re terrible navigators. The best way to stay grounded is to stay surrounded.

Don’t run from the fight – run into it.

In 1 Thessalonians 3, Paul reminds the church that “we are destined for” suffering and pain. The Bible never tries to hide that truth. Don’t be discourage that life is a battle though because God’s didn’t only promise a fight, He also promised the victory! We aren’t fighting for victory as much as we’re fighting from the victory of the cross and empty tomb!

Stay humble and stay hungry.

We stay humble by acknowledging that our faith has gaps (1 Thess 3:10).

We stay hungry by constantly pursuing more of Jesus (1 Thess 3:12).

Admit it: you haven’t arrived yet. Until you stop living, like it or not, you’ll always be lacking. As long as you’re breathing, there’s room for growing. Following Jesus is a cycle of letting Jesus pour into us so we can pour into others.

Paul told the Thessalonian church,

Knowing that your faith is alive keeps us alive.

1 Thessalonians 3:8

The most important thing in all of life is that you are standing fast in the Lord. Don’t let the fight take you down. Trust God like never before and face the struggle head-on!
