Memorial Day has always been a special day on the calendar as we celebrate those who paid the ultimate cost for our freedom. Moving to Clarksville has given me all new perspective, however. Ft. Campbell is the second largest military post in the nation, and Awaken is made up of 60-70% military families. Although I will never fully understand their sacrifice, I feel it a lot more now. Not only are some of our closest friends currently battling for our freedom overseas, but many thousands from our city have paid with their lives so we could continue to live!

Memorial Day took on all new significance the first time we took our kids to a nearby military cemetery. Hand in hand with our kids, we walked among thousands and thousand of gravestones, marking the lives of men and women of all ages who had given their lives serving their country. Not all of them died in combat, but their sacrifice is noble nonetheless.

“All gave some. Some gave all.”

Today, as we remember those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom, let it remind us to pray for the families who have been left behind and those who are currently on the front lines fighting for our freedom, as well as be thankful that Jesus gave His life for our spiritual freedom. Jesus paid the ultimate price so we could experience ultimate freedom.

To our military families who serve our nation so selflessly, THANK YOU. Your sacrifice is not forgotten.

This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friends.
