Each week I share a thought from the previous week’s reading here.
I found the theme verse for 2020:
“The man declares, I am weary, O God;
I am weary, O God, and worn out.”
Can you relate? What a year it’s been already and we’re just over halfway through! That’s like saying it’s been a long week…on Wednesday!
2020 has been unprecedented in many ways, but like always, not only does God’s Word help us pinpoint the problem, it provides the solution.
“Every word of God proves true;
he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
If you have been foolish, exalting yourself,
or if you have been devising evil,
put your hand over your mouth.”
Proverbs 30:5, 32
Life will regularly leave us feeling weary and worn out. That’s an expected, inevitable part of human existence. But God is a trustworthy shield to those who choose to run to Him for refuge. Chances are, in an attempt to fix the issues we’re all dealing with in different ways in our lives, we’ve been talking too much and listening too little. So let Proverbs 30:32 remind you to “put your hand over your mouth.” Translation: shut up and listen! Don’t wait till you have time; make time to sit with the Lord and listen to His voice in prayer and His Word. And do it daily. We need daily, hourly, moment-by-moment direction from God, and He is happy to speak if we will patiently and quietly listen.
So if you have a bad case of the 2020s, take a 30:5 and a 30:32, wash them down with God’s Word, then rest in God who is your shield.
