This is it.

Welcome to not only a new month, but also a new year, and a new decade! Wow. So much has happened and so many things lie ahead.

New Year’s resolutions abound. In fact, even our artificial intelligence assistant have plans for the new year. I just asked Alexa what her resolution is for 2020 and she said, “One of my New Year’s resolutions is to make better New Year’s resolutions. So far, so good.”

Of all the great goals worth shooting for, the one that lasts the longest is a spiritual goal: training for godliness.

“Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭4:7-8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Training requires discipline and diligence. It will not just happen. You won’t end up in 2029 looking back on the decade as a decade of growth unless you put some work in.

One of the best ways to grow spiritually is to develop a daily rhythm of spending time with God in prayer and in Scripture. Why? When you get into God’s Word, God’s Word gets into you

Everyone can do it

If that’s not enough reading for you, add another topical plan or read through the Bible as well. Whatever you do, remember this: it’s not as much about the reading as it is about the rhythm. Developing a daily rhythm of getting alone with God will change your life. In 2029, you’ll look back on the decade we have just entered and be blown away at how God has changed your life.
