Hellfire and high water are just part of following Jesus and walking by faith. That’s what my second book, Come Hell or High Water is all about. I pray your faith is fueled by the promises in Isaiah 43:2…

‘When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.

When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.

When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up;

the flames will not consume you.’

Isaiah 43:2 NLT

Over the last 2 weeks, we’ve looked at 2 big principles from that 1 verse:

Walking in victory involves walking through pain.

We must learn to embrace pain as part of the pathway to our obedience.

What God brings you to He’ll bring you through.

God doesn’t say we’re going to pass out in the river or burn up in the fire, but that we will go through them. He doesn’t promise smooth sailing, but He does promise safe passage.

I want to leave you with a final thought from this mini-series from Isaiah 43:2:

For all of life’s pain, there is always a promise.

Did you notice the correlation between pain and promises in Isaiah 43:2? Let’s break it down real quick…

“When you go through deep waters…” (PAIN)

“…I will be with you.” (PROMISE)

“When you go through rivers of difficulty…” (PAIN)

“…you will not drown.” (PROMISE)

“When you walk through the fire of oppression…” (PAIN)

“…you will not be burned up; (PROMISE)

the flames will not consume you.” (PROMISE)

Life’s pain and God’s promises are a package deal. There is never a problem you’ll face or pain you’ll endure that is disconnected from a promise from God. Whether you’re the victim of the pain or the cause of the pain, God’s promise of His abiding presence, faithfulness, and grace remains constant.

Here’s the harsh reality of life: you’re either about to go through a storm, in a storm, or coming out of a storm.

Here’s the good news: No matter where you find yourself, know that you are never alone!
