I recently released my second book, Come Hell or High Water, which is our church’s story of walking by faith through hellfire and high water, fueled by the promises in Isaiah 43:2…

‘When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.

When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.

When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up;

the flames will not consume you.’

Isaiah 43:2 NLT

Last week, we discussed that walking in victory involves walking through pain.

Now that we understand the inevitability of pain, today I want to shift the focus a bit and discuss what happens when the pain hits, because if we’re honest, sometimes the pain can feel overwhelming.

Let me draw your attention back to the wording in Isaiah 43:2:

“When you go THROUGH deep waters…”

“When you go THROUGH rivers of difficulty…”

“When you walk THROUGH the fire of oppression…”

Are you picking up on a trend here? Sometimes life’s pain feels overwhelming because we allow it to overwhelm us. But here’s the truth:

What God brings you to He’ll bring you through.

So when you find yourself traversing the valley of the shadow of death (and you will), put your tent away. We’re not camping out in the valley or drowning in the river or burning up in the fire; by God’s strength we will go through them. He didn’t bring you to these rough patches and brutally hard moments to abandon you; He allowed you to come to them so He can empower you and take you through them! Be encouraged today. The same Shepherd who goes with the sheep through the valley is the same God with you in the hellfire and the high water!
