Spine health is big business these days. From chiropractors to ergonomic chairs and standing desks, posture matters. Hunching over or slouching down can do long term damage. Physical posture matters, but so does our spiritual posture.

In Genesis 4, God sees the anger in Cain’s heart toward his brother and graciously speaks up to warn him. God says, “…Sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.” (Genesis 4:7 ESV)

Sin’s posture in Genesis 3 reminds me of Peter’s description of the devil’s posture in 1 Peter 5. He says, “Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8 ESV)

The posture of sin is prowling. It’s crouching at your door, hoping to entice you to rise up against others as Cain did just a verse after his warning from God. If anyone had a justifiable excuse to rise up against others, it was Daniel. He was framed and punished for crimes his enemies invented against him. So how did he keep a level head? “He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God…” (Daniel 6:10 ESV)

Sin is crouching at your door and the devil is on the prowl.

Our victory comes through a posture of prayer!

Don’t overlook the power you have at your fingertips when you pray! The same God who was with Daniel in the den is with you wherever you go!

Gen 3 – sin is crouching at your door

Cain *rose up* and killed Abel

The devil is like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour

The devil came to steal, kill, and destroy

Sin and the devil are postured to steal, kill, and destroy. We should learn from Daniel’s posture: three times per day, he prayed.
