The scene of Palm Sunday was a massively historic, prophetic moment. Jesus, the colt, the clothes on the ground, the palm branches in the air, the voices crying out… It was all deeply significant. But it didn’t just happen. Every significant moment happens because of the coordination of hundreds of seemingly small details. Think back through the Triumphal Entry scene…

500 years prior, the prophet Zechariah told the nation of Israel, “…Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” (Zechariah 9:9 ESV) 483 years to the day prior to this event, Daniel foretold it (Daniel 9:24-27). Zechariah and Daniel were aware of what they were saying, but had no idea the weight of their words or their prophetic significance. Yet they were faithful to include those sentences in the words they spoke and wrote.

They were faithful with the details.

How about the owner of the donkeys? Jesus picked some random donkey owner in Jerusalem. “Tell him ‘The Lord needs them,’” Jesus told His disciples. Regardless of the questions the man may have had, he allowed Jesus to borrow his donkeys.

He was faithful with that seemingly small detail.

The crowd worshiped Jesus by singing Psalms, waving branches, and laying their jackets on the ground like a makeshift red carpet. They didn’t have a lot, but they worshiped with what they had.

They were faithful with the details.Your role is significant. Your words are important. Your actions are valuable. Whatever your role is, do it with all your might. Lift your voice, wave your branch, lend your donkey, share your faith, invite your friends, take a stand, live your faith… The seemingly small moments are part of an eternal picture God is crafting with our lives. Be faithful in the details. The Lord needs them.
