Jenn and I are leading an Awaken Group for young married couples this semester. It just started a week ago, and we’ve met twice so far. It’s been really great. We are using the YouVersion Bible app to read through Paul’s New Testament letters together. The YouVersion app has a “read with friends” feature that has been really helpful. When you read with friends, it keeps you accountable because everyone can see who has read and who hasn’t (yikes!). That feature alone has helped our group stay in God’s Word more consistently than anything else. And wouldn’t you know it, as we’ve been consistent in God’s Word, it’s been speaking consistently to us!

“Reading with friends” made me realize that so many things in life, and specifically in the Christian life, are better and/or more successful with friends. Think about it…

  • Eating with friends…
  • Playing a game with friends…
  • Serving at church with friends…
  • Serving in the community with friends…
  • Praying with friends…
  • Discussing life with friends…
  • Raising kids with friends…
  • Learning how to have a successful marriage with friends…
  • Struggling together with friends…
  • Hurting with friends…
  • Laughing with friends…

No wonder the author of Hebrews says not to forsake gathering together (Hebrews 10:24-25)! A Christian in community is a Christian that will be growing and impacting their community. Pour into others and make sure you’re being poured into. You’ll be better for it!
