When you think about co-workers, what comes to mind? Frustration? Collaboration? Communication? Perspiration? You may have had some of the best co-workers in the world, but never forget the Bible calls us God’s workers (see 1 Corinthians 3:9). One of the final Old Testament prophets, Zechariah, gives a quick behind the scenes look at how we work with God.
“this shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God.”
God had just spoken chapters of prophecy to and through Zechariah, but then he reminds His people of this key truth. All of these great things God wants to do can only happen “if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God.” It’s a classic “If, then” scenario. IF you obey, THEN these things can take place.
Here’s the simple reminder for us: God wants to orchestrate amazing things in and through us, but so much of what God wants to do through us is contingent upon what we allow God to do in us. Let’s be clear though: our obedience doesn’t earn God’s power, it enables it. When we choose to step out in obedience, God unleashes His power in and through us.
Only God knows the “THEN” that’s tied to your “IF.” God’s faithfulness is not in question – our obedience is. If you’ll obey, imagine what God could do!
