A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment.
Proverbs 18:1 (NKJV)
Allow me to to make that verse crystal clear: when we isolate ourselves, we are selfish (“seeks his own desire”) and stupid (“rages against all wise judgment”).
Don’t get mad at me. That’s in the Bible!
Who we hang with matters.
Show me your five closest friends and I’ll show you your future. Who we surround ourselves with is who we will become. You should have friends who don’t know Jesus (how else will they hear about Him?), but the important thing in a relationship is influence. Are you being influenced or are you doing the influencing?
Godly relationships require intentionality.
You won’t accidentally find yourself surrounded by Godly people. The relationships we settle for are not the relationships that will push us forward.
Relationships only grow when we are honest and open.
Others will only be able to push us forward as much as we allow them. Godly relationships are about inviting Godly voices into your life, and then acting on what they have to say. Others can see our blind spots, so find a couple of people you can fully trust, have hard conversations with them, then act accordingly.
Isolation = selfishness + stupidity. That combination won’t lead anywhere good, so surround yourself with Godly people and move forward together.
