Accept the way God does things, for who can straighten what he has made crooked?
Ecclesiastes 7:13 (NLT)
Sometimes God’s methods & timing seem way off. He says to walk “the straight and narrow,” but it feels more like “the crooked and windy.” But if God made it crooked, we have to trust He has a purpose. Here are a couple thoughts for when it seems like God is leading you down the scenic route.
Maintaining perspective is key to maintaining character.
In Genesis 39, Joseph emerged victorious from the same temptation that has conquered many men: adultery. How did he do it? In a word, perspective. He recognized that giving in to lust would be sinning against God. In the heat of the moment, we have to learn to keep our eyes fixed on the eternal, not the temporary.
Preparation can be a painful prerequisite to your purpose.
Throughout my teenage years, I struggled hard as I ran a student-led youth group and a Bible Club at my high school. I was teaching weekly, overseeing volunteers, and planning events and meetings. I didn’t always love it and sometimes wanted to quit. As I look back now, I realize those tough years we training for my future.
Although preparation can be full of frustration, trust that God is using it as He points you toward your God-given purpose!
When everything changes, stay focused on what doesn’t.
Life often feels like a whirlwind of change, so you have to fight hard to stay focused.
No matter what changes in your life, God’s presence in your life and God’s purpose for your life never change.
Trust that God not only has your best in mind, but He knows the best way to get there!
