Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.
James 1:2–4 (The Message)
Let those words sink in for a minute: “Don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work…”
Believe it or not (and like it or not), the work you’re trying to get out of may be what God is using to do some work in you!
The presence of pain doesn’t equal the absence of God’s presence. He doesn’t hate you; He loves you, and if you’ll let Him, He’ll work on you through the pain. He didn’t cause the pain, but He’ll use the pain.
I’m aware this is a reversal of the typical way we think. In the middle of pain, we tend to ask God, “Will you please get me out of this?” Maybe we’re asking the wrong question. Next time, try a different approach. Instead of asking God to get you out of it, ask God what you can get out of it!
Whether it’s self-inflicted pain from a bad decision or circumstances that are out of your control, let it do its work. God’s got you!
