    Scary Prayers

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

    Ephesians 3:20-21 (ESV)

If I were able to listen in on your prayers, what would they say about your faith and the God you serve?

Since we are creatures of habit, if we’re not careful, we can easily fall into prayer ruts.

A prayer rut means praying the same thing, in the same way, at the same time. Instead of allowing prayer to be a loving, faith-building conversation with God, it often turns into a robotic, monotonous, repetition of the same thing you said last time.

As a reminder, God doesn’t only specialize in blessing our sandwiches, sleep, and study habits (or lack thereof!). As He was in the Bible, He’s still the God of miraculous, merciful, mind-blowing intervention!

We need to let Ephesians 3:20 breathe some fire into our prayer life. If we believe what the Bible says and God is actually able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, then our prayer had better reflect that!

How do you know how your prayers measure up?

Are you praying scary prayers? Or are you praying, easy, generic, safe prayers?

Scary prayers are just that. They’re scary because the answer is out of your control. Scary prayers require God’s intervention. Scary prayers involve things that are impossible unless God intervenes.

    We pray scary prayers because…

What scares you doesn’t scare God.

What worries you doesn’t worry God.

What is beyond your ability is far within God’s ability.

He is able, so pray like that’s the truth and see what God does!
