    2,922

2,922 days (8 years) ago, Jennifer Alison Rockhold became Jennifer Alison Miller.

sunset cruise on our honeymoon in Maui, November 2003

It was also on that day, after 15 months of dating and engagement that we shared our first kiss ever – in front of Pastor Neil Ortiz and all those who attended our wedding that day!

I had no idea how perfect Jenn would be for me as we continued through the years together. After all, I was still getting to know her. We met during the summer while I was working at a summer camp. We started dating in September 2002, talked about getting married in October, I asked her dad for permission in November, and she had a ring on her finger in December. By November of 2003, we were married! God definitely knew what He was doing when He gave me Jenn. Our relationship began with a shared passion for music and the Lord. I played bass when Jenn led worship. Eventually, I took a job as middle school youth pastor, and she continued leading worship for the middle school youth group.

From the beginning, Jenn has been my best friend, greatest encouragement, and most committed ministry partner. She’s been there through some great times and some very hard times as well. The challenges of church planting have been very trying, but have only served to strengthen our relationship. Most people have no idea how challenging it is to be a pastor’s wife. They’re held to extremely high (sometimes unfair) standards and every inch of their lives are scrutinized. She stands up to the scrutiny.

One of my favorite things about Jenn is that she is one of those people that pushes me to be more like Jesus. She’s never forceful about that, but she just sets an excellent example in her love for the Lord and desire to grow closer to Him. It’s contagious. The more I hang out with her, the more I want to be like Him.

Single guys: wait for a girl who has this effect on you. They’re rare, but they’re beautiful, and they’re worth the wait!

Jenn is also an amazing mom. I’m serious. When she’s out of town or tied up for even a day, it highlights in my mind the level of patience and persistence she has as she displays the love of Christ to our girls. They have no idea how blessed they are to have Jenn Miller as their mom!

I can’t stay away from Proverbs 31 when I think of a passage that describes her…

“Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many daughters have done well, But you excel them all.'” (Proverbs 31:28, 29)

Today I celebrate my best friend.

Thank You, Lord, for giving Jenn to me. And thank you, Jenn, for hanging in there with me. I don’t know how you do it, but I’m so glad you do!
