According to this CNN article, a majority of evangelical leaders do not believe that tithing is commanded in Scripture, but that it’s a good practice. The majority say it’s an Old Testament commandment that doesn’t transfer over to the New Testament.
Awaken takes a less-traditional approach to giving. We don’t pass an offering plate, but instead we provide boxes around the sanctuary for giving.
What are your thoughts?
Is tithing an important part of worship for you?
Do you believe it’s commanded in Scripture?
Have you seen the benefit of tithing as an extension of your worship or is it more of an obligation to you?
Is there a certain amount of your income that you should give to the church or is it up to the individual?
I like how Francis Chan put it. “Give until it hurts.” That’s the difference between an obedient heart and an obligatory heart, at least to me.
Yes, tithing is a part of worship. I do believe it is commanded in scripture. My perspective is that everything belongs to the Lord and we are just stewards. Sooo.. if it’s His anyway, give, give, give, you can’t out give God!!!!
